Nazneen Rahman
I was really interested in meeting Nazneen Rahman to talk about
science and art as I found she was a singer and highly regarded scientist
and researcher in molecular genetics.
I've always found the two fields intrinsically linked and would I be
able to live life again I would like to be a scientist, as I think a true
pioneer in creative thinking belongs the sciences of today.
In fact, I think art is in essence, futurism, similar to science trying to
reflect and think differently to shape a future civilization. I tried to
express this, but ended up talking about cakes.
Although I got some great pictures of Nazneen, or Naz, I found her
perhaps too easy to photograph, as sometimes I find that more someone knows
their own image they can shape the ongoing moment rather than letting the
photographer discover it, and like the future, it's all dependent on time.
I found Nazneen Rahman to be a remarkable, bright light of a person.

Mr and Mrs. Fententer van Vlissingen BCD Group
Sometimes you can tell how a shoot is going to go because you have to negotiate time allocation to take the photographs before you arrive on the day. Usually, if it's in an office, and time is tight, its a challenge to get a bit of magic.
On the day of the Vlissingens we'd all got the address wrong and as I was a good 30 minutes early I decided to walk from Marble arch to Paddington as it was a nice day. I passed ex prime minister Tony Blairs house and talked to the armed security guard that I thought it was nice that he'd put a 'Vote Labour' poster in his front window like many households up and down the country before an election. The officer replied, 'what are they voting here'? We both laughed and I kept on walking navigating with memory and phone to the right location.
As I arrived downs stairs I saw an older couple sitting in the office and assumed they were the couple I was to photograph as the PA and secretary were stressed.
I talked about the weather and the Blair household and they both laughed and noticed it relieved lifted the air. I usually wait for the journalist to arrive before taking photographs but this time asked to start as I thought she would be late.
They were willing as I sweated to pose in front of the window as I tried to make them look like a Rembrandt painting as I'd heard they were patrons. Then the journalist arrived and I explained I'd like to look for a location outside.
I couldn't find anything London looking nearby so I asked if I could take them in a black cab taxi to Marble arch and started the shoot in the taxi, (you never know) Then at marble arch we were a little dogged by cyclists and beggars but they were brilliant shrugging off problems and being helpful before having to catch a flight.
A good couple who looked as in love now as they ever have been.
